Summary: The Postal Code Conversion File (PCCF) links the six-character postal codes to the standard 2006 Census geographic areas (such as dissemination areas, census tracts, and census subdivisions). By linking postal codes to the Statistics Canada geographic areas, the file facilitates the extraction and subsequent aggregation of data for selected geographic areas. The PCCF also associates each postal code with a longitude and latitude coordinate to support mapping applications.

Notes:

• The postal code reference date for this Postal Code Conversion File (PCCF) is July 2009.
• With this release, some geocoding linkages within the PCCF were improved. A total of 14,669 records were updated and 47,024 were deleted from the postal code database used to generate the PCCF.
• A file is available that indicates all of the postal codes corrected in the July 2009 PCCF.
• New record level metadata are included indicating the source, quality and type of linkage made between the postal code and the geographic area.
• Postal codes retired before January 1, 2006 are included in the Retired 2005 file (r2005.txt). This reduces the size of the PCCF.
• The birth_date and ret_date fields in this version of the PCCF inform users of the natal/retired history of postal codes from January 2006 to July 2009.
